Professor Elisabetta Brusa is the only teacher specialized in Traditional Orchestration/Instrumentation at the Conservatorio of Milan. Composition students of different levels of knowledge pass through her class which is divided into two yearly courses. Both the first and the
second years consist of 10 two hour lessons and 10 one hour lessons once a
week for a total of 30 hours in 20 weeks. For students enrolled in the Superior Course of Composition (please see the Conservatorio website: I Nuovi Piani di Studio + Corsi di Diploma Area 1, 2, 3, + Corsi Extracurriculari) the first course is obbligatory and the second is optional. Foreigners must be accepted as provisional students at the Conservatorio so as to follow any of the two Orchestration courses as auditors with the permission of the teacher. However, only officially enrolled Composition students at the Superior Course for a particular Degree or Diploma can take the yearly Orchestration exams.
